Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

This morning, I was one of few lucky web developers who got a Google Wave Invite from Google itself ! Google Wave is really cool, you should try it out when it’s out!

For me to enjoy Google Wave, I had to give away my 8 invites to friends close by so that we can try it out. The invites have to be verified, If you have an invite, add me to your contact list on Google Wave: milladd@googlewave.com.

Thank you Google !

Remove Many Duplicated Music Files In iTunes

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

You probably have allot of music content in your iTunes library. I usually have allot of duplicated music files available, and it is quite annoying. If you use the iTunes show duplicate feature, it will only show you duplicated tracks. The feature will not allow you to remove them easily. You have to select manually each track and remove it.

Download this AppleScript file and place it in your Home – Library – iTunes – Scripts folder. When the script is running, It will make a duplicated playlist for you when complete. You can then delete duplicated tracks by selecting them all and hold the option key (alt) and Delete ( <– ) to delete them from their original file and not only from the playlist.

Optimizing Web Images Is Easy With Smush It

Smush It Screenshot

I personally love sites that load fast. That’s why I try to optimize my own sites so that the user get a quick page load response from the server. I don’t like to let the user wait to load a simple HTML page. That’s why I try to squeeze the images I use for the site so that the page will load faster. I usually compress my CSS and JavaScript to also get better performance. I want to share this tip on how to optimize your images before publishing them on the web.

I usually use Adobe Photoshop to optimize my web images by using the Save For Web dialog to do so. This lets you get the best visual result for a certain file size.
Smushit.com is a service that uses image format specific non-lossy image optimization tools to squeeze the last bytes out of images. They do it without changing the look or the visual quality of your image.

You can either upload one image or point your site url. They will check the images for you by giving you a report of how many bytes you can save by optimizing your images. You can then download those changed images as a single zip for download which will be generated for you. Smush it is also a FireFox Extenion which you can fire up quickly to “Smush” your site.

Video of interest: History of the Internet

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

History of the Internet is a very quick animated documentary explaining the progress of the technology we use today and how it basically works.

I really liked it, you should check out the video and his free icon library PICOL which stands for Pictorial Communication Language and is a project to find a standard and reduced sign system for electronic communication. PICOL is free to use and open to alter.

Google Android: My Very First Android Application

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Google is a great company. They give you Google Android which is the first complete, open, and free mobile platform. And they’re offering the Android Software Development Kit for free to download so you and me can start to build Mobile Applications using the Java language.

I’m working on Android right now and tried to make my first Application on it using my knowledge of java and their API using Android Eclipse Plug-in which they provide for free. This is just a simple Application that would display a message on the phone. Nothing big. You can see for your self.

Macworld 08 & I’m a bit disappointed.

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Not so long ago, something called the Macworld Expo, the trade show in San Francisco, where Apple introduces its latest products before adoring everybody. Steve Jobs instructed us to 4 new products we will love.

Now I know this type of news is all over the net, but this is my opinion.

(1)Time Capsule, witch is a wireless backup hard drive for your entire network.

(2)Software update enhancements to the iPhone and iPod Touch.

(3)Rent movies by downloading them. $4 for a new release, which you must finish watching 24 hours after you have clicked watch movie.

(4)MacBook Air ($1,800). Apple claims this is the thinnest laptop in the world, and I have to agree!

I’m a bit disappointed:
