Snow Leopard Installed

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

Snow Leopard is finally installed on my Macbook Pro ready to roar. At first glance, you are not going to notice colossal changes, but you will notice a faster, and a more reliable operation system. Miniature user interface changes are to be noticed but nothing really new on the outside.

A Really Loud Roar
Things seem fast and reliable, and the new Finder is really stable. Apple have focused on speed, reliability, and stability rather than adding more features to the operation system. Although I hope they add some new features next time, because Snow Leopard´s under the hood treatment upgrade only works for some end users.

Conclusion
What Apple have done to Snow Leopard is good for the future, the things that do not mean a thing to you today, might mean allot tomorrow as GPUs and CPUs gain more cores, they have to have a software system that will use it all.

Installing Tomcat Server On Snow Leopard

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

This is a quick note on installing Tomcat on Mac OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard. You can install Tomcat in many ways, the way I’m going to do it is very simple and is only for testing.

You simply navigate to the Tomcat website and download it from there. Once you have the compressed file, unzip it. I Usually rename it to just Tomcat and move the file to my Macintosh HD/Library. The Tomcat file will now be in Macintosh HD/ Library / Tomcat.

Open Eclipse and to go preferences, search for Runtime Environments. Once you have done so, select the one available, usually Apache Tomcat v6.0 and click on edit, then browse to where you have installed Tomcat 6. Click Finish -> Ok, and now you can add a new Tomcat Server 6 in Eclipse.

Finally My Super Tank Game

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

School is here soon, and I have been working hard to finish a game I have been busy working on. It is about a super tank that is defending it’s city from terrorists running to blow it up.

Game Objective
You are the hero who controls this super tank so that your city will survive another day. You have to kill all 50 terrorists. If one bypasses you then he will destroy your city.

Development
I have never made games before. The code and the game you are about to see is my own research and work, this is stuff I did not learn in school, because I’m no game developer.

This was a bit challenging, but I have learned allot. Code and a download link after the jump.

Java JSON Converter

Friday, June 19th, 2009

I recently developed two Ajax web applications for clients written in Java and JavaScript. The main problem I had was converting my Java Objects to JavaScript Objects so that I can manipulate and do visual changes…etc

The first thing you do is to visit json.org and download the JSON parser from there. The problem with that parser is that you have to manually add attributes to the object. This can take a while.

I wanted a simple JSON parser that take my Java Object(s) and convert them to JSON without having to hassle around and adding attributes again to JSON object.

That’s why I found Google GSON. What’s great about this is that it’s a Java library that can be used to convert Java Objects into its JSON representation. It can also be used to convert a JSON string to an equivalent Java object. Gson can work with arbitrary Java objects including pre-existing objects that you do not have source-code of.

You need to import src files to your project, then use them by declaring a GSON object and using its methods.

Meet Bespin – Web-based Framework For Code Editing

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

Bespin is a Mozilla Labs web application that is extensible web-based framework for code editing that aims to increase developer productivity, enable compelling user experiences, and promote the use of open standards via your browser.

They have a working experimental prototype, that demonstrates some of the concepts of Bespin and the possibilities that it opens up. It supports basic editing features, such as syntax highlighting, large file sizes, undo/redo, previewing files in the browser, importing/exporting projects, etc.

jQuery: Why I’m Loving It

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

I´m in love with jQuery it is very fast and is basicly a JavaScript Library that simplifies HTML document traversing, event handling, animating, and Ajax interactions for fast and solid web development. It has changed my style of coding. Rather than writing 100 lines of code you can start using JQuery and dramatically shorten your code lines.

It even have a Ajax support so you can focus on your project more, rather than debugging a bit more. Lets focus on basic animation and movements with jQuery. Its easy to apply and modify. They have a very good API documentation so its quite easy to actually find what you are looking for. They provide you with allot of examples and tutorials you can study and learn from.

I’m currently working on a small project, its a game but its not yet done. You can check this out. Use your keyboard arrows to navigate.

This is some of my work notes from jQuery.

Bypass Eyeconnect trail from 30 days to 100347 days trail period.

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

Ok you have a Playstation 3 and you have a mac. You want to stream movies you have from your mac to your PS3. Dont use Medialink because its hard to “fix”. Use Eyeconnect and fix the trail period. How do you do that ? Well I found out. Follow me:

1)Before you install the application, go to System properties and change your System year from 2008 to  2038. Confirm it and quit the System properties.

2)Install the program ( Eyeconnect) and run it.

Now it says 30 days left.

3)Now close the application

4)Go back to System properties and change your year back to 2008.

5)Go back to your Eyeconnect App in System Properties and look at the days remaining .

OR you buy the program like i did, its great. They are going to fix this bug in later patches so.

Enjoy  :)

AppleScript Tip: Launch more than 1 program at once with this script.

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

When I work on a specific project, I would have allot of applications opened.

If I´m going to work on my website I have photoshop activated with some other programs like Flash, FTP Client, Browser, and a text editor.

By making a simple script with AppleScript, you can have these scripts on your dock. Click one of them and it will launch all of the programs you want them to launch, by writing your script.
